Four birds of the Otididae family
(Bustards) are found in India; the Indian Bustard of the
grass plains and deserts; Houbara Bustard, a
winter visitor to dry regions of western India; the Lesser
Florican, found in grass plains in western and
central India; and the Bengal Florican of the tall,
wet grasslands of the Terai and the Brahmaputra valley. The Great Bustard (Otis
tarda) and the Little Bustard (Tetrax tetrax) are vagrants. All these birds are in the endangered red list
of IUCN.
